AI Notepad is an updated version of the built-in Windows 11 Notepad app that adds AI-assisted writing and editing tools.
In November 2024, Microsoft announced a major Notepad update for Windows 11. The key change is AI-powered functionality designed to make everyday text editing faster and more convenient. Microsoft also reported faster app launch times, with performance improvements of about 35–55%.

The Rewrite feature can generate three rewrite options so you can pick the best one. To refine the result again, you can use the Repeat option.
The updated Notepad includes automatic saving to reduce the risk of losing work after crashes or accidental closure. It also keeps versions of AI-edited text so you can return to the original content if needed. Autosave can be turned off.
AI Notepad is currently available in a limited test rollout in select countries (including the US and Europe). The AI features can be tried using credits purchased separately.
