Movie Gen

Movie Gen is Meta’s AI tool for generating video and audio. It was introduced in fall 2024 and is built on the Llama Image model. At the time of writing, Movie Gen isn’t publicly available.

Access and how it works

To use Movie Gen, you need to sign in with a Facebook* or Instagram* account. The tool is currently in closed access, and Meta hasn’t shared an official public release date.

To generate a video, you enter a text prompt. More detailed prompts help specify what should appear in the scene. You can also choose settings such as:

• aspect ratio
• duration
• motion and other generation parameters

Editing and capabilities

Movie Gen can generate high-definition video and supports multiple aspect ratios. It can also edit existing videos by:

• removing or replacing objects
• moving characters
• generating themed audio
• adding scenery/props
• changing the background

In addition to text prompts, Movie Gen supports uploading photos and videos. The maximum output is up to 16 seconds at 24 fps.
