Paint AI

Paint AI is an updated version of Microsoft Paint announced in November 2024. It adds AI-assisted editing features such as generative fill, intelligent retouching, and image creation.

Key AI features

• Generative fill: extend or add elements to an image using text prompts while keeping the rest of the picture intact.
• Intelligent retouching: make targeted edits that preserve the original style.
• Image creation: generate new visuals directly inside Paint.

How generative fill works

• Select an area with Paint’s selection tool.
• In the pop-up panel, choose the Generative fill option.
• Type what you want to add or change in the selected area.

Paint generates the result based on your description and aims to match the style of the original image.

Availability and requirements

• Currently available only to Windows Insider users in the Canary and Dev channels on Windows 11.
• Limited testing is available for users in the US and Europe; broader rollout is planned later.
• Requires a Snapdragon-based device and Windows 11 version 24H2 or later.
• New features are in a test phase and available to a limited number of users.
