Prologue: Go Wayback! is a single-player open-world survival game from PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions. It blends classic survival mechanics with machine learning–driven world generation, designed to produce up to a million unique maps and keep each run different.
Gameplay and core loop
You start in harsh wilderness conditions with minimal gear—an old map and basic tools. Your main objective is to reach a remote weather station while managing limited resources and environmental threats.
What makes each run different
The game uses procedural generation to create varied landscapes with different terrain, climates, and resource placement. This makes exploration less predictable and encourages adapting your strategy from one playthrough to the next.
Technology and long-term direction
At the core is a landscape generation system built on machine learning algorithms, intended to quickly create large, distinct regions. Prologue: Go Wayback! also serves as an experimental platform for technology and mechanics planned for the studio’s larger multiplayer project, Artemis.
