What is Artificial Superintelligence

GlossaryArtificial Intelligence

A hypothetical AI that is significantly superior to humans in almost all intellectual tasks.

Definition

Artificial superintelligence is a concept of the future, not an existing product. It describes a system that could be stronger than humans in science, strategy, programming, creativity, management, and complex problem solving. The term is often discussed alongside security, compliance and long-term risks.

Example

In a hypothetical scenario, superintelligence could find scientific solutions faster than human research teams, but its goals and limitations must be strictly aligned.

Why it matters

The term is important for understanding philosophical and strategic discussions about AI, but it needs to be separated from current neural networks and marketing hype.

How it works

The discussion of superintelligence is based on assumptions about the development of general AI, model scaling, autonomy, and the ability of systems to improve their own methods.

Where it is used

  • long-term risks
  • futurology
  • AI security and consensus

Limitations

There is no generally accepted evidence yet as to when and in what form superintelligence may appear. Any deadlines should be submitted with caution.
