Gemini 3.5 Live Translate is Googleβs model for near real-time speech-to-speech translation. It automatically detects 70+ languages, translates continuously, and aims to preserve the speakerβs intonation, pacing and pitch. For everyday users it is rolling out in Google Translate, while developers can try it through the Gemini Live API and Google AI Studio.
Where To Use It
Google says Gemini 3.5 Live Translate is rolling out in the Google Translate app on Android and iOS. In the app, open Live translate and connect headphones. On Android, Google is also starting to roll out a listening mode that streams translated audio through the phone earpiece when headphones are not available.
Google Translate is available on Google Play and the App Store.
What It Can Do
- translate live speech with only a few seconds of delay
- automatically detect 70+ languages
- preserve more natural tone, rhythm and pacing
- support travel, meetings, lessons, broadcasts and multilingual calls
- give developers public preview access through the Gemini Live API
What About Google Meet
In Google Meet, this technology is expected to upgrade speech translation with 70+ languages, more than 2,000 language combinations and translation beyond English-only pairs. It starts in private preview for select Google Workspace customers, with broader rollout planned later in 2026. See also Google Meet AI Translate.
What To Keep In Mind
The rollout is gradual, so availability depends on country, app, device and account. For private conversations, tell people when speech translation is being used. Google also says audio generated by its models is watermarked with SynthID.
