What is AI-as-a-Service

GlossaryAI Infrastructure

An access model in which artificial intelligence functions are provided through a cloud service, API, or ready-made web interface.

Definition

AI as a service allows you to use neural networks without your own infrastructure, a team of researchers and expensive equipment. The user pays for subscription, queries, data volume or model usage. This format is suitable for generating text, images, speech recognition, document analysis and built-in functions in applications.

Example

The company connects a cloud-based speech recognition service and receives call transcriptions without developing its own model.

Why it matters

The term is important for website and product owners: it is often faster to buy or connect a ready-made AI service than to build everything yourself.

How it works

The provider manages the model, calculations, updates, and scaling. The user sends requests through an interface or API and receives the result.

Where it is used

  • fast AI connection
  • generation and analysis via the cloud
  • built-in AI functions in the product

Limitations

There is a dependence on the provider, tariffs, limits, availability and data processing rules. For sensitive data, contracts and security are important.
