What is AI Ethics Guidelines

GlossaryEthics & Safety

Sets of principles and rules that help develop and use AI safely, fairly and transparently.

Definition

AI ethics guidelines describe how a company or organization should deal with data, users, risks, explanations, discrimination, and human oversight. It's not just lawyers who need them: product, development, marketing and support need to understand the boundaries of what's acceptable, too.

Example

Internal management may prohibit entering personal customer data into public chatbots and require that AI responses be verified before sending.

Why it matters

The term is important because AI is rapidly being introduced into work processes, and without clear rules, employees act chaotically and create risks.

How it works

Typically, the manual includes goals, prohibitions, permitted scenarios, rules for working with data, responsibilities, a review process, and instructions in case of incidents.

Where it is used

  • corporate policies
  • employee training
  • safe use of AI

Limitations

The manual becomes outdated if it is not updated to reflect new models, tools, laws and real incidents.
