Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant for writing, coding, files and complex analysis. You can use it in the Claude web app, mobile apps and through the Claude API. For software work, also see Claude Code and our AI coding tools collection.
What Claude can do
- Draft and edit articles, emails, instructions and work documents.
- Analyze files, tables, charts, images and long documents.
- Help with code: explain bugs, write snippets, plan edits and tests.
- Keep context across longer conversations and complex tasks.
- Run through the API in products, internal tools and agent workflows.
Claude Fable 5
On June 9, 2026, Anthropic released Claude Fable 5. The company describes it as a generally available Mythos-class model. It is built for work that needs sustained focus: large code changes, document research, deliverables, vision analysis and agentic workflows.
For developers, Claude Fable 5 is available through the Claude API as claude-fable-5. Anthropic lists pricing at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. US-only inference is available at 1.1x pricing for workloads that need it.
What Claude Mythos 5 is
Claude Mythos 5 uses the same underlying model, but with different access. It is limited to vetted cybersecurity partners and, later, selected biology researchers. Anthropic does not make Mythos 5 generally available because of dual-use risks.
For most users, Fable 5 is the relevant release. It includes safeguards: some cybersecurity, biology, chemistry and distillation-related requests may be routed to Claude Opus 4.8 instead of Fable. For normal writing, coding and knowledge-work tasks, this should not affect most sessions.
How to use it
- Open Claude at claude.ai and sign in.
- If Fable 5 is available on your plan, select it from the model picker.
- For API work, use claude-fable-5 on the Claude Platform.
- For coding, run Fable 5 through Claude Code or another agent tool that supports it.
Access limits
From June 9 through June 22, 2026, Anthropic includes Fable 5 on Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise plans at no extra cost. Starting June 23, the company plans to remove it from those subscriptions temporarily and require usage credits until capacity is sufficient.
Fable 5 and Mythos 5 require 30-day data retention for safety monitoring. Anthropic says this data is not used to train new Claude models and is used to detect complex attacks and reduce false positives.
