Vibe coding is a workflow where a developer describes the goal, steers the direction and reviews the result while AI writes, edits, explains and sometimes runs code. It still needs architecture, tests, and code review.
For an AI-first editor, start with Cursor or Windsurf. For terminal and repository work, compare Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cline, Kilo Code and Aider. For fast web prototypes, try Lovable, bolt.new, v0 or Replit.
For larger projects, prioritize repository understanding, planning before edits, clear diffs and test execution. Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, Cline, Kilo Code, GitHub Copilot and Traycer are the strongest starting points.
OpenRouter is not an IDE, but it gives developers one API for many models. It is useful when you run Cline, Kilo Code or custom dev tools and want to switch models without rebuilding the workflow.
