Apple’s new Siri with personal context, screen awareness and app actions

0

Description

Siri AI is the new version of Siri that Apple introduced on June 8, 2026 at WWDC26. It is not a standalone web chatbot. It is a system assistant built into iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. Powered by Apple Intelligence, it can use personal context, understand what is on screen, search across apps, and take actions across the system.

What The New Siri Can Do

The big change is that Siri AI is designed for natural back-and-forth conversations instead of narrow voice commands. Siri can find information in messages, email, photos, and more, answer questions about the current screen, pull fresh information from the web, and continue a response as a richer conversation. Apple also added a dedicated Siri app where users can revisit past conversations, with history privately synced through iCloud.

Where It Shows Up

  • on iPhone through Hey Siri, the side button, or a swipe down from the Dynamic Island
  • on iPad and Mac through Spotlight and Ask Siri context menus for text, files, and images
  • on Apple Vision Pro as a spatial 3D visualization users can talk to
  • on Apple Watch from the wrist and through Smart Stack suggestions
  • in CarPlay and AirPods when paired with a supported iPhone

Useful Workflows

Siri AI is meant to do more than answer questions. Apple shows examples such as drafting an email from scratch, editing and sharing a set of photos, finding a hotel confirmation in an old email, pulling up photos from a specific trip, and answering questions about what is visible on screen. On iPhone, Siri mode in Camera lets the assistant understand what the user is looking at and suggest actions. For broader chatbot-style work, compare it with Copilot, Gemini, and ChatGPT. Apple’s angle is deeper system integration and privacy-focused personal context.

Supported Devices

Apple says Siri AI and the new Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 are available on iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad mini with A17 Pro, iPad models with M1 or later, MacBook Neo with A18 Pro, Mac with M1 or later, Apple Vision Pro, Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, and Apple Watch SE 3 when paired with a nearby Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.

When And How To Use It

Developer testing started on June 8, 2026 through the Apple Developer Program across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27. Siri AI developer testing for watchOS 27 will come in a future beta. For regular users, Apple says Siri AI will be available as a beta later in 2026 for supported devices set to English, with more languages to follow.

Regional limits matter. In the EU, Siri AI will initially be available on Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro when set to a supported language, but not initially on iOS and iPadOS. In China, Siri AI and the other new Apple Intelligence features are not available while Apple works through regulatory requirements. Features can vary by country, language, and device.

Privacy Model

Apple says the new Siri uses on-device Apple Foundation Models and Private Cloud Compute for more complex requests. When Private Cloud Compute handles a request, Apple says personal data is not stored or made accessible to Apple. The practical tradeoff is still worth noting: Siri AI becomes useful because it can draw on personal context, so users should review Apple Intelligence, Siri, iCloud, and app data permissions before turning on the beta.

Apple published the details in its official Newsroom announcement.
