RecurseChat is a personal macOS AI client built around local models and privacy. It brings local LLMs together with ChatGPT and Claude in one native app, without complicated setup.

Local AI and offline chat

RecurseChat follows a local-first approach: chats with local models run offline, and data stays on your device. It also supports a multi-model workflow so you can switch between models in the same conversation and compare responses.

Documents and chat history

The app processes PDF and Markdown files locally. A built-in RAG mode lets you ask questions about documents without uploading them to the cloud. You can also import your ChatGPT history to continue older conversations alongside local AI.

Search, multimodal input, and macOS security

Full-text search across thousands of messages makes it easier to navigate long threads. For images, RecurseChat supports multimodal input via the LLaVA model, enabling questions about screenshots and illustrations. The app uses macOS App Sandbox to reduce data leakage risks and keeps chats, documents, and models accessible from a single interface.
